Climbfest in Donegal is Irelands biggest and best climbing festival.

This year its planned to be at Cruit with trips to Owey and Gola, so going to be another great weekend

Its organised by Colmcille Climbing Club

Highlights of previous years have included
great climbing,
fireworks and a fire sculpture,
great weather,
bbq,
beach olympics,
great craic - meet so many climbers from around the country
me busting my leg open and ending up in casualty 30 hours later after a stop at the pub for some dinner.

Date is the bank holiday weekend at the start of May (Friday 30th April - Monday 3rd May), stick it in your diarys

climbfest was brilliant last year, beach olympics were so good. I swear mooncat an rocket must have been sailing off those sandunes for about 20 feet before they landed. also seen the quickest tyre change in history. a very bad unexpected hairpin bend in the road. along with all those other things mark mentioned! cant recommend it enough.

Quote:
The 2010 ClimbFest will take place on Cruit Island, Donegal over the
May bank holiday weekend from Friday 30th April - Monday 3rd May.
Camping will be on the flat ground by the beach on the right of the
road shortly after crossing the bridge from the mainland.

Climbing will take place all over the island but a good starting point
will be the largish beach just north of the campsite. There will be a
daily ferry service from the pier at the north of the island to Owey
island as well, which offers excellent climbing and the potential for
lots of new routing. There may be trips to Gola island as well to be
confirmed nearer the time.

We'll have portaloos and toilet tents too but you'll have to bring
plenty of your own cooking / drinking water. You may be able to beg
some off Cruit Golf Club or some of the wee pubs just out the Glenties
road.

Cruit Golf Club beside the pier at the north of the island has a very
hospitable barman called Jimmy who tells us there are no privacy /
membership rules at all at the clubhouse, so no problem using the bar
and facilities (i.e. toilet) as long as you're a paying customer.

There may be food available at the bar too if you don't fancy eating
pot noodles round the campfire (again). For washing you can always
take a dip in the nearby sea.

There'll be tshirts again this year and topos. Costs for registration
will be a one-off fee of €15 which will include your topo and camping,
no matter how many nights you stay. Tshirts will be €10.

Hopefully see you there,

Anthony Feeney
Secretary Colmcille Climbers
